Fashion in the 80's had some very distinguishable styles and trends led by neon and bright colors that burst onto the scene in rapid fashion. Some of the most fashionable items from the era were denim, scrunchies, and bright neon clothing. Among these clothing trends hairstyles exploded. Girls took up large poofy hair or crimped hair. Guys wore leather jackets and styled slick back hair that held the ladies in awe.
The 80's sculpted the rest of time and put the world on pause to carve their path on the world. The 80’s still leave fashion marks on our society and fashion today. Women can be seen today still with their scrunchies and their leg warmers. Among other fashions fanny packs have made their mark and are here to stay. From soccer moms to marathon runners, fanny packs are the ultimate carry on for athletes and people who move around.
Some prominent silhouettes from the 80’s were big shoulders and a skinny waist. Some women wore shoulder pads to be viewed as equal to men in the workplace. Women complimented this shape by wearing tight shirts or crop tops and baggy pants. The old clothing was not enough though, designers added logos onto these recycled shirts to modernize the look and give it the signature 80’s flair.
Various artists and figures inspired 80’s fashion trends around the world. Madonna and Cyndi Lauper were both huge influences with their outrageous outfits with bright colors and big accessories. Another big influence to fashion was Michael Jackson. Jackson’s slick look with
leather and flashy designs that put him in the spotlight. These icons shaped an era and their mark is still inspiring designers today.
